Zhang Fan, Zhang Lidong, Lv Yingchun, Zhang Hang, Zhang Qiaolian and Zhang (First name withheld, Zhang Fan's younger brother, 12 years old) were all members of the cult organization “Church of Almighty God.” While knowing that “Church of Almighty God” was a cult organization that had been banned by the state, Lv Yingchun, Zhang Fan, and Zhang Lidong still secretly gathered together the followers of the cult to prepare and disseminate information on the cult organization, recruit members of the cult organization or provide convenience to the aforesaid acts, sabotaging the implementation of the laws and administrative regulations issued by the state. On May 28, 2014, Zhang Fan, Zhang Lidong, Lv Yingchun, Zhang Hang, Zhang Qiaolian and Zhang who attempted to advocate the cult and recruit members asked their surrounding diners in a McDonald's fast food restaurant in Zhaoyuan, Shandong to supply their phone numbers, but the victim Wu (Given name withheld) refused to give her phone number. Then, Zhang Fan and Lv Yingchun jointly identified Wu as an “evil spirit,” and killed Wu by ganging up with Zhang Lidong, Zhang Hang, Zhang Qiaolian and Zhang.
