In a case of intentional homicide arising from the intensification of disputes in a romantic relationship, the defendant should be sentenced to the death penalty for his cruel criminal means; but if the defendant confesses and shows remorse for his crime and actively pays compensation as circumstances for lighter punishment but the relatives of the victim request stern punishment, the people's court may, according to the nature of the case, the circumstances of the crime, the severity of consequences, and the subjective malevolence and dangerousness of the defendant, sentence the defendant to death with a two-year suspension and concurrently decide to impose commutation restrictions to effectively resolve social conflicts and promote social harmony.@#
