| Manufacturing design capability is an important component of the innovation capability in the manufacturing industry. Enhancing the design capability of the manufacturing industry can implant greener and more sustainable design concepts with higher quality into products; comprehensively apply new materials, new technologies, new processes and new models, and promote the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements; and promote integrated innovation and original innovation, and help solve the design problems in the weak fields of the manufacturing industry. In recent years, design innovation has effectively promoted the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, and has also promoted the continuous progress of design itself from idea to method, implementation method, and other respects. However, lack of design capability is still a bottleneck affecting the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry. Research on design basis and data accumulation, design tools and methods, training of design talents, experimental verification, and public service capabilities are still in urgent need of enhancement. | Efforts shall be made to promote the effective improvement of the design problems in the weak fields in the manufacturing industry, gradual perfection of the basic research system for industrial design, substantial enhancement of the public service capabilities, and the innovative development of the talent training model within around four years. Breakthroughs in original design shall be achieved in high-end numerical control machines, industrial robots, automobiles, power equipment, petrochemical equipment, heavy machineries and other industries, as well as energy conservation and environmental protection, artificial intelligence and other fields. A group of industrial and national standards shall be formed in system design, artificial intelligence design, ecological design, and other respects, and a group of useful and professional design tools shall be developed. A high-level national industrial design institute shall be established, and the basic research capabilities of industrial design and public service level shall be improved. Around 10 service-oriented manufacturing demonstration cities characterized by design services shall be created, more than 200 national industrial design centers shall be developed and expanded, the backbone force of design innovation shall be formed, and the development trend of industrial design shall be led.
