| Article 1 For purposes of honoring eminent people who have made outstanding contributions to the building of socialism with Chinese characteristics, carrying forward the national spirit and the spirit of the times, motivating the enthusiasm of people of all nationalities across the country in building a modern socialist country that is prosperous, powerful, democratic, and harmonious, and achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, this Law is developed in accordance with the Constitution. | | 第一条 为了褒奖在中国特色社会主义建设中作出突出贡献的杰出人士，弘扬民族精神和时代精神，激发全国各族人民建设富强、民主、文明、和谐的社会主义现代化国家的积极性，实现中华民族伟大复兴，根据宪法，制定本法。 |

| Article 3 The “Republic Medal” set up by the State shall be bestowed on eminent people who have made enormous contributions to and made meritorious achievements in the building of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the protection of the State. | | 第三条 国家设立“共和国勋章”，授予在中国特色社会主义建设和保卫国家中作出巨大贡献、建立卓越功勋的杰出人士。 |
| The “Friendship Medal” set up by the State shall be bestowed on foreigners who have made outstanding contributions to the China's socialist modernization, the promotion of exchange and cooperation between China and foreign countries, and the protection of world peace. | | 国家设立“友谊勋章”，授予在我国社会主义现代化建设和促进中外交流合作、维护世界和平中作出杰出贡献的外国人。 |
| Article 4 National honorary titles set up by the State shall be bestowed on eminent people who have made major contributions in economy, society, national defense, foreign affairs, education, science and technology, culture, health, sports and other fields and industries and who enjoy high reputation. | | 第四条 国家设立国家荣誉称号，授予在经济、社会、国防、外交、教育、科技、文化、卫生、体育等各领域各行业作出重大贡献、享有崇高声誉的杰出人士。 |
| National honorary titles may be titled with “people” and any other name. The specific names of national honorary titles shall be determined by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress when deciding to bestow. | | 国家荣誉称号的名称冠以“人民”，也可以使用其他名称。国家荣誉称号的具体名称由全国人民代表大会常务委员会在决定授予时确定。 |
Article 5 The Chairmen's Council of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress shall, according to the suggestions of all parties, submit bills and proposals on bestowing national medals and national honorary titles to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
